Module two of this training guides participants through interactive and experiential exercises to process and release trauma, shame, guilt, and fatigue around racial bias. This training will give participants tools to express compassionate accountability towards themselves and others and to maintain the emotional balance of clarity, freedom, and relief achieved during the process.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this presentation is for participants to gain tools to express compassionate accountability while processing and understanding racial bias in a practice setting

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • List each component needed to provide an environment of healing and safety for all people regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.

  • Implement the tools of compassionate dialogue to eliminate barriers to DEIB.

  • List 3 examples of increasing staff competency in addressing racial bias and trauma with clients.

  • Identify and describe 3 ways Compassionate Accountability can be implemented in practice.

The Compassionate Accountability training is an extension of SR that tactfully addresses the underlying root causes of unconscious racial bias and emotionally paves the way for cultural competence in recovery spaces. Compassionate Accountability works in tandem with NAATP’s Stages of Change Model for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) – Best Practices in Addiction Treatment.
