Ester Nicholson will deliver an introduction to her signature training: “Compassionate Accountability.” This training illustrates how the 12 Steps of Recovery can address issues beyond addiction and dependence in the traditional sense. This training will present concepts and practices that healthcare professionals can immediately implement in their current efforts toward diversity, equity, and inclusion in the behavioral healthcare industry.

To increase understanding of the underlying root causes of unconscious racial bias and emotionally pave the way for cultural competence in recovery spaces.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define unconscious bias
- Reduce stress, confusion, and resistance for staff regarding DEIB trainings
- Increase staff competency in addressing racial bias and trauma with clients
- Explain how spirituality and DEIB practices are an effective and loving path toward the transformation of systemic racism in behavioral health
- Identify and describe 3 ways Compassionate Accountability can be implemented in practice
- List each of the components needed to provide an environment of healing and safety for all people regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status
- Implement the tools of compassionate dialogue to eliminate barriers to DEIB
