Description

The pregnancy and postpartum experience can be a time of great excitement and expectation as parents explore a new identity. But for many birthing persons, the experience can be deeply challenging, full of distress, doubt, and unmet expectations. Perinatal Mood Disorders are a range of mental health conditions that are too often misunderstood and underdiagnosed. Parents are challenged with finding a proper treatment plan and providers knowledgeable about the unique presentation of illness. Developing a deeper understanding of the presenting concerns, risk factors, and evidence-based treatment modalities will create greater access to qualified mental health providers and help support the stabilization of families during the vulnerabilities of the postpartum experience.
