Description

Transgender individuals are navigating increased visibility while subjugating to enhanced scrutiny over their bodies and autonomy. While many adolescents are coming out earlier and living their authentic lives confidently, many still struggle to find secure housing, gain and maintain employment, have family support, and maintain safety. Due to societal stigma, lack of resources, and/ or transphobia, many clients struggle with multiple mental health diagnoses, making it challenging to navigate and thrive in their lives. Lack of provider training and clinical awareness of gender dysphoria often contributes to transgender clients being diagnosed and labeled with pathologies they do not have while undermining and ignoring their gender dysphoria symptoms. This workshop will provide vital education for mental health providers on navigating the complex biopsychosocial profiles of gender-diverse individuals.
