In response to the Public Health Crisis that is racism, the Michigan legislature has required all healthcare professionals to receive training on the topic of implicit bias. In this workshop, Dr. Quentin Tyler will provide professionals in the counseling field substantive training regarding the issue of implicit bias and how it relates to their areas of practice.
This workshop will define implicit bias and lead participants to recognize and understand how it impacts perception, judgment, and actions that may result in inequitable decision-making, failure to communicate effectively, and barriers and disparities in accessing and delivering behavioral health-related services.
Dr. Tyler will review historical trauma, intersectionality, micro-assaults, microinsults, micro-preventions, micro-validations, and micro-interventions. The workshop will also examine the manifestation of implicit bias on the micro, mezzo, and macro levels and the power structures and processes that cultivate a culture of bias.
