Description

This presentation is sponsored by AADA (Association for Adult Development & Aging). It will focus on opioid use across the adult lifespan, including how opioids are used, the rates of opioid use, and the associated factors for opioid use across the lifespan of adults in early adulthood, middle adulthood, and older adulthood. It is essential to understand these different variables to see how they differ for individuals based on age and life context. This presentation will provide vital information for clinicians to provide the appropriate level of treatment for adult clients struggling with opioid use.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this presentation is to increase participants’ knowledge of opioid use across the adult lifespan.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify three types of opioids used across the adult lifespan.

  • Describe two factors of opioid use for individuals in each stage of the adult lifespan.

  • Identify and discuss three consequences of opioid use for individuals across the adult lifespan.

  • Identify and describe three interventions that can be used with adult clients to address an issue related to opioid use based on the individual's age.

Adrianne Trogden, Ph.D., LAC, CCS, ADS, CFMHE, LPC-S

Dr. Adrianne Trogden is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor as well as a Licensed Addiction Counselor and Certified Clinical Supervisor in Louisiana. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans in 2017 and a Master’s in Community Counseling from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2004. She has worked in both the mental health and addiction fields since 2002 in a variety of areas, including home-based counseling, addiction treatment, dual-diagnosis, partial hospitalization with adolescents, private practice, transitional housing for women, children services, Homebuilders, and juvenile court. She is trained in EMDR and Acudetox. She is the Past-President of the Association for Adult Development & Aging. She is the COO at Counsel NOLA, a University of the Cumberlands professor, and has a private practice in New Orleans. She contracts with the United States Navy to supervise Navy substance abuse counselors, is a CARF surveyor, and owns Trogden Counseling & Consulting, LLC.

Blake Fleet, MA

Blake Fleet, MA, works as a counselor in Denver, working with individuals, couples, adults, and children. Blake specializes in addiction, PTSD, anxiety, depression, life struggles, relationship issues, and other severe mental health concerns. Blake has years of experience in substance abuse treatment, having been a clinical supervisor and clinical director for residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment centers. Blake is a licensed addiction counselor and licensed professional counselor in Colorado. Blake completed his bachelor’s at Oklahoma State in Psychology, his master’s degree from Denver Seminary in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is currently working on his Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision from the University of the Cumberlands.
