This session will focus on the use of gender-affirming hormones in the treatment/prevention of gender dysphoria. Specific emphasis will be placed on helping attendees develop a clearer understanding of the safety and efficacy of gender-affirming hormones, mechanisms for delivery, typical changes clients can expect when initiating gender-affirming hormones, and how to assess for clinically appropriate timing for initiating gender-affirming hormones. This information is particularly relevant to mental health providers to be better prepared to discuss gender-affirming medical care with their clients.

The educational goal of this workshop is to equip attendees with the knowledge, understanding, and impact of gender-affirming hormones in treating and preventing gender dysphoria. Attendees will better understand the mechanisms of delivery and the timeline of expected changes when discussing gender-affirming hormone treatment with their clients.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Identify three types of gender-affirming hormones used in treating and preventing gender dysphoria.

Explain the mechanisms of delivery of gender-affirming hormone treatment.

Identify three effects of estrogen generally considered desirable, and three effects of testosterone generally considered desirable.
