The Substance Use Disorder Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Industry struggles to move past the false narrative of being a paraprofessional entity, relying only on personal experience to aid those served. As we struggle for acceptance as professionals in the eyes of other behavioral health practitioners, this presentation takes a hard look at some of these issues and recognizes that most are of our own doing. This workshop will ask uncomfortable questions, challenge the status quo, and open up conversations about how those in the field can begin to reckon with these issues.
- Counselors
- Addiction Counselors
- Social Workers
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists
Participants will explore aspects of professional identity and ethics in the substance abuse field.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- List at least 3 credibility issues in the SUD prevention/treatment/recovery industry.
- Identify 3 ways to remove these issues from their practice.
- Name their own professional boundaries and verbalize adjustments to better apply them.
- Define post-care outcomes.
- Differentiate between educational and lived experience, noting the benefits and limits of both.
