Body-Based Psychotherapies are not taught in graduate school. This seminar will explain the history of Body-Based Psychotherapies, their importance, and their potential to aid clients. Therapists will learn some techniques to down-regulate a client’s nervous system to use in practice.

  1. Explain why the body was originally taken out of psychotherapy
  2. Describe 3 key aspects of the importance of using the body as an avenue for information in psychotherapy
  3. Know at least 4 different types of therapies that use the body
  4. Learn at least 3 techniques for incorporating the body into therapy sessions

Jennifer Goggin, MA, LMHC, LPC, SEP

Jennifer has been working with clients for over two decades as a personal coach and licensed psychotherapist. Passionate about the power of transformation in people’s lives, she completed a three-year Post Graduate training in Somatic Experiencing, a gentle technique that helps the body to release caught trauma/tension and helps to heal and reduce symptoms. Jen became a Director at a well-known, nationally recognized Florida treatment center, where she mentored, taught, and supervised staff in both mental health and substance abuse issues. Currently, she is in private practice, holding licenses, both in good standing, in Florida and Connecticut. She has been trained and influenced by Diane Poole Heller, Dan Siegel, Peter Levine, CBT, Somatic Experiencing, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, neurobiology, Attachment Theory, the 12 Steps, Carl Jung, mindfulness, Gabor Mate, Dr. Leslie Korn as well as many others.
