Description

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a highly effective, evidence based treatment for a variety of mental health and substance use concerns. DBT is utilized in a variety of treatment settings, including both inpatient and outpatient. This presentation will provide an overview of the theoretical components of DBT for mental health providers, as well as provide a review of the four primary skill categories. Participants of this presentation will also learn ways to utilize DBT in group and individual therapeutic settings.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to provide an overview of the theoretical and skill components of DBT, as well as learn how to implement DBT in group and individual settings.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe at least 3 theoretical components of DBT.

  • Identify and describe the 4 primary skill categories of DBT.

  • Explain at least 2 ways to implement DBT in both group and individual settings.

Staci Tessmer, Ph.D., LPCC-S, NCC, BC-TMH

Staci is an independently licensed counselor with a supervisory designation (OH) and maintains her NCC and BC-TMH credentials. She also has a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. Staci has been practicing in the counseling field for over a decade and has held a variety of clinical, supervisory, and administrative roles at both the inpatient and outpatient levels of care, working with children, adolescents, and adult populations. DBT has been her primary therapeutic approach and she has provided numerous presentations and workshops on a variety of DBT topics over the years. Lastly, Staci has also held numerous leadership positions in state and national counseling organizations.
