TEAM-CBT Therapy is a major development of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) created by Dr. David Burns, author of his latest book “Feeling Great: The Revolutionary New Treatment for Depression and Anxiety”. Dr. Burns is considered one of the forefathers of CBT. TEAM-CBT is not a new “school” of therapy, but rather is a framework for conducting measurement-based therapy that is proven to be more effective than traditional therapy. TEAM is an acronym for the four crucial ingredients of effective therapy known to improve treatment outcomes: Testing, Empathy, Agenda Setting, and Methods.

  1. Explain what TEAM CBT Therapy is.
  2. List five Secrets of Effective Communication
  3. Describe the five steps of Agenda Setting with a focus on Assessing for Motivation.
  4. Define and describe the two forms of Resistance.
  5. Explain how to use DML to effectively set up multiple cognitive techniques.
  6. Identify Cognitive Distortions.
  7. Describe and Demonstrate a Cognitive Role play Technique.
  8. Describe a case example to illustrate the framework.

She began her training experience in TEAM CBT in 2013 after attending a workshop in New Orleans by Dr. David Burns, founder of TEAM-CBT. Jill is now a trainer/ therapist with the Feeling Good Institute, whose mission is to improve lives through effective therapy.
