This workshop provides a very simple yet deeply impactful step-by-step guide on how to address addiction in the home in a way that is appropriate for everyone in the family. All family members should be given the truth in a child-friendly, age-appropriate way that allows for conversation and open dialogue as the family may continue to experience addiction, treatment, and recovery. This workshop provides information to help clients fully understand their family problems, reverse untrue beliefs, and understand and interact in their role in the family to impact themselves and their family dynamic positively.

 

This workshop is appropriate for professionals working with:

– Children impacted by SUD
– Caregivers caring for children impacted by SUD

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to increase knowledge about how to understand and support all members of a family through addiction, treatment, and recovery.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 2 or more characteristic concerns of family members who love someone with SUD.

  • Identify child friendly language that can be used to address questions or concerns related to (1) SUD (2) SUD treatment, and (3) recovery

  • Define healthy roles for each family member in a family system.

  • Explain how healthy roles positively impact individual members in a family system.

Kyle Pillans

Kyle comes to Stonewater with two decades of experience in helping families find recovery. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Studies from the University of North Texas. She has acted as a children’s counselor, community advocate, treatment center founder, operational leader, program developer, and more since 2004. Her personal knowledge of the impact that mental health and substance use issues can have on a family system has driven her dedication to a career that provides hope, growth, and change for every individual in the family. Kyle’s expertise on this particular topic comes from her 12 years as a children’s counselor at Betty Ford Center, where she worked with kids aged 7-17 and families impacted by Substance Use Disorder.
