Description

Lisa Spiegel, certified Internal Family Systems therapist and author of Internal Family Systems Therapy with Children, will offer a two-hour workshop on using the IFS model with children and adolescents. Topics to be covered include: using the IFS philosophy to understand your child client’s play, the IFS protocol, and introducing the model to parents and children. The workshop will use experiential exercises, direct teaching, and video to give therapists a solid grasp of incorporating IFS into their child therapy practice.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define the three basics of the IFS model, including categories of parts: managers, firefighters, and exiles
  2. List 2 materials necessary for doing child therapy with the IFS model
  3. Present the model to children and their parents.
  4. Map and work with their own parts
  5. Use the IFS model as a lens for seeing symptomatic behavior in children as an important communication about the inner world of the child

Lisa Spiegel, LMHC

Lisa Spiegel received her BA from Vassar College and has a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University. She is the co-founder and director of Soho Parenting, a New York City parenting and psychotherapy center. From her three decades of working with adults and children as a psychotherapist, she has developed an approach that draws from an eclectic array of disciplines – talk therapy, trauma work, yoga, mindfulness, and parent coaching. Her post-graduate education includes certification in Internal Family Systems Therapy, LifeForce Yoga®, and couples counseling from the Relational Life Institute. Lisa is a Level III trained EMDR practitioner and has used this modality since 2000. She is the author of Internal Family Systems Therapy with Children, published in 2017. This book is the first publication outlining the step-by-step IFS protocol with children. She teaches and supervises therapists worldwide using IFS with their child and adolescent clients.
