The goal of the presentation is to educate providers on navigating various social media platforms in order to educate adolescents and their families about their potential negative mental health effects. Providers will learn how social media directly influences teenagers and their thought processes, which has been shown to cause increased anxiety. Providers will learn how to communicate with teenagers and their families about using social media appropriately which can increase positive relationships within the family and decrease anxiety.

Participants will gain increased competency in working with teenagers and their families on anxiety caused and exacerbated by social media.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. List 4 social media platforms and their general use.
2. Identify 3 negative effects social media has on teenage anxiety
3. Apply 3 techniques to improve communication and interpersonal relationships between parents and their teenagers related to social media.
The Louisiana Counseling Association is approved by the Louisiana Licensed Professional Board of Examiners to offer continuing education for Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors and Provisional Licensed Professional Counselors. This program 1.0 CE clock hours for Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors.
