This presentation will provide an introduction to trauma as well as an overview of how trauma affects the body. The session will then explore techniques that can best be used with clients who have experienced trauma. Participants will learn how to prioritize appropriate challenges for the clients in order to increase client’s cooperation. Practical tools will be introduced that can be used within the therapy session to better understand trauma and work with a client experiencing trauma.

The educational goal of this workshop is to increase knowledge of how trauma impacts both the body and behavior and to learn to effectively treat a client with trauma using evidenced based techniques.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Define trauma.

Explain two ways trauma affects the body and behavior.

Identify when a client is ready to engage in trauma work.

Identify and analyze at least three resources that are appropriate to help regulate their client's emotions.

Identify at least two practical tools that can be used in a therapy session with a client who has experienced trauma.
