Description

This presentation will focus on creative strategies and interventions counselors can use to engage in professional and personal self-compassion and self-care. Participants will recognize the signs that appear when counselors need to engage in professional and personal self-compassion and self-care. They will also analyze creative interventions counselors can use for their self-compassion and self-care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 3 or more reasons self-compassion and self-care are important.

  • Identify 2 or more signs that indicate a clinician should engage in professional and personally self- compassion and self-care

  • Create 2 self-compassion and/or self-care interventions that can be used personally.

Brandon Hunt, Ph.D., LPC

Brandon Hunt, PhD, LPC, NCC, is a professor of counselor education and a practicing clinical supervisor. Her scholarship focuses on counselor training, as well as counselor knowledge and attitudes toward clients. She teaches courses on clinical mental health counseling, sexuality and counseling, and clinical internship. She has served on the editorial board for several counseling journals, including the Journal of Counseling & Development.

Pam Wells, PhD, LPC, ACS

Pam Wells, PhD, LPC, ACS, is an associate professor of counselor education with a focus on clinical mental health counseling. She has been training graduate level counselors for 11 years. Her research interests include mindfulness and counselor training, and counselors-in-training wellness. She has given numerous presentations at national counseling conferences and has published numerous articles on a variety of counseling topics.
