This presentation will examine the trends and disparities in the LGBTQ+ older adult population. The presenter will provide a historical and current overview of the issues and disparities LGBTQ+ persons encounter as they age. Implications and suggested practices for counselors will be discussed through an intersectional lens.

The educational goal of this workshop is to The educational goal of this workshop is to provide awareness and knowledge of the conditions many LGBTQ+ people encounter as they age.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Explain intersectionality as it relates to the LGBTQ+ older population.

Describe 3 or more of the LGBTQ+ historical antecedents.

Identify 2 or more triggering events that lead to increased mental health issues.

Identify 3 or more strategies that will lead to a positive outcome for LGBTQ+ older persons.
