Description

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment modality that has effectively treated various mental health and substance use concerns. DBT can be complex in a traditional, outpatient setting; however, with the recent shift to telehealth, counselors are finding that they have to adjust to new challenges. This workshop will review the theoretical orientation and functions of DBT, discuss the impact telehealth has on DBT, and introduce ways to implement DBT techniques and strategies via telehealth delivery methods.

  1. Describe the theoretical underpinnings and functions of DBT.
  2. Describe the implications that telehealth has on DBT.
  3. List at least three strategies for implementing DBT techniques via telehealth delivery

Staci Tessmer

Staci Tessmer, M.A., LPCC-S, NCC, BC-TMH, has over 9+ years of clinical, supervisory, and administrative experience at both the inpatient and outpatient levels of care. She has experience working with children, adolescents, and adult populations. Staci currently works at Kent State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services as the Training Coordinator, overseeing internal and external training programming and conducting therapy sessions with students.

Staci has been actively involved in counseling organizations since 2013, holding various leadership positions. Additionally, she has presented at numerous local, state, and national conferences and workshops on various counseling topics. Staci also serves as adjunct faculty in the clinical mental health counseling programs for Kent State and Youngstown State University.
