In our modern world, technology plays a part in all factors of life, including dating, relationships, and sex. As relationships move online, so too does abuse. Our culture has come a long way in discussing sexual abuse, but conversations about online abuse are still very taboo. Many survivors of this type of abuse experience intense shame and stigma, and mental health professionals may unwittingly perpetuate victim-blaming. This workshop will explore the phenomena of online abuse and nonconsensual image sharing, touching on legal and clinical considerations for mental health professionals.

Educational Goal:

This workshop will aid mental health professionals in understanding the emerging issues of online abuse and nonconsensual image sharing, giving them tools to respond competently and empathetically to clients who have experienced this taboo but common issue.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify three ways technology factors into modern relationships
  • Describe one law related to the nonconsensual disclosure of private images
  • Describe three clinical considerations to take into account when working with cIients who have experience nonconsensual image sharing.

This program has been approved for 1.5 CE clock hours by the Louisiana Counseling Association as authorized by the Louisiana Professional Counselor Licensing Board of Examiners.

Course meets the qualifications for hours of continuing education credit for LPCCs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Brittany Hunt

Brittany has worked for 7 years in the anti-sexual violence and reproductive justice movements. She has worked with survivors of sexual assault in clinical, medical, legal, and military settings. In addition to her direct service work, Brittany has provided education on topics around sexual violence for a variety of audiences, including for law enforcement, military members, community-based advocates, and laypeople. Brittany is a graduate of the Tulane School of Social Work and currently works as the Clinical Oversight Specialist at TPN.health.
