Attendees will be able to identify facts from misunderstandings regarding the very common, but often not discussed, the topic of NSSI. From being able to use correct language to identifying the almost 30 forms of the behavior, the top 10 reasons why someone chooses to harm, tips on how to respond, and assessment guidelines, the attendee will feel better prepared to assist clients & caregivers with this behavior.

Participants will gain competency in identifying and treating non-suicidal self-injury.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- List a minimum of 15 forms of NSSI
- Identify at least 5 reasons why someone self-injures
- Differentiate between NSSI and SI
- Define and dispel at least 2 common misconceptions/myths
- Identify at least 1 way to better assess for NSSI to reduce a false negative response
The Louisiana Counseling Association is approved by the Louisiana Licensed Professional Board of Examiners to offer continuing education for Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors and Provisional Licensed Professional Counselors. This program 2.0 CE clock hours for Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors.
