Description

This experiential workshop will help practitioners tune into their own body knowledge as a resource for increasing their capacity to work with and hold their clients’ grief. It will include an interactive lecture/discussion and a movement based experiential. Please wear clothing that is comfortable to move in and bring a journal or something to write in.

Educational Goal

Participants will gain competency in the use of body work and movement in the treatment of grief.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe 4 specific ways that their bodies respond to their clients’ grief (in sensation, movement, images, feelings, and thoughts)
  2. Explain in detail an embodied experience of grief
  3. Name 3 specific practices that will help them prepare for and exit the experience of holding grief

Counselors

The Louisiana Counseling Association is approved by the Louisiana Licensed Professional Board of Examiners to offer continuing education for Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors and Provisional Licensed Professional Counselors. This 1.5 CE clock hours for Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors.

Grace Harman

Grace Bella Harman (she/her/hers) is a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT) and Embodied Grief Guide originally from Philadelphia and based in New Orleans. Her full-time work is centered on uplifting the imperative role of the body and movement in processing and metabolizing grief, and she is passionate about helping people of all ages activate their bodies to connect to their own vitality as well as each other.
