Using the lessons learned in the medical field, the value of boundaries in the workplace will be explored in this presentation. The examples gleaned from the crucial power differential in the medical field apply at all levels of ethical workplaces. Included in this presentation will be an exploration of the definition of boundaries, the definition of boundary transgressions and the types that can occur in the workplace. In addition, there will be a discussion of the importance of healthy boundaries in maintaining a healthy workplace. The importance of understanding roles in the workplace and stress management will be discussed. Aspects of self-care that are crucial to the conscious maintenance of boundaries will be discussed and time will be reserved for questions regarding specific contexts, including insights learn from fellow participants.

Increase understanding of the ethical importance of healthy boundaries and self-care.
- Describe the definition of boundaries.
- Describe the importance of boundary crossings and identify at least three types.
- Identify the impact of stress, personality style and understanding of boundaries in not only identifying
unhealthy boundaries in the workplace but also defining healthy ones. - Identify at least three resources and tools for self-care, personally and in the workplace, to minimize
stress and other risk factors for boundary transgressions.
