Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to understand the importance of mental health treatment in the criminal justice system and its impact on the community.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify three or more components within the criminal justice system.

  • Explain how mental health treatment will impact both the client and the community.

  • Identify the type of treatments that are most effective in the criminal justice system.

  • Define recidivism.

  • Explain how treatment can effectively reduce recidivism.

Cherylene M. Tucker; LPC, NCC, MAC, LCD

Cherylene Tucker is a licensed therapist working in the field of criminal justice. She has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in both Professional Counseling and Family Therapy. Cherylene is currently a doctoral student at Regent University, pursuing her PhD in Counseling & Psychological Studies with a concentration in Trauma and Crisis Counseling. Cherylene has worked in the field of counseling since 1993. Her current role is the Program Supervisor at the Tarrant County Community Supervision and Correction Department. There, she manages outpatient treatment services. She has been with Tarrant County since 2005, working in their counseling department. Cherylene also has a private practice, Strategies for Change Life Consultants. She services adults who struggle with grief, depression, anxiety, relational issues, addiction and premarital/marital. Working in the field of criminal justice as a therapist for the past 18 years, Cherylene brings a wealth of knowledge in discussing Mental Health Treatment in the Criminal Justice System.
