This module will identify the nine issues, including personal issues and vulnerabilities of therapists that combine to lead to ethical and legal violations.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this module is for participants to become aware and responsible of their personal characteristics and needs in the therapist role.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 3 or more characterological issues in clinicians that tend towards ethical and legal breaches.

  • Define counter-transference and identify at least 2 counter-transference issues that can intrude their professional role as a clinician.

  • Identify at least 3 roles of clinicians, including 1 or more potentially problematic roles.

Ronald Mah, M.A., Ph.D., L.M.F.T.

Ronald Mah is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. He is the author of “Difficult Behavior in Early Childhood,” (2006), “The One-Minute Temper Tantrum Solution” (2008), and “Getting Beyond Bullying and Exclusion, PreK-5, Empowering Children in Inclusive Classrooms” (2009), in addition to several e-books and DVDs. Dr. Mah has 16 years of experience in early childhood education. He is the owner of a childcare center and has elementary & secondary teaching credentials. He is also on the Board of Directors of the California Kindergarten Association and was a college instructor. Dr. Mah is the Co-Director of the MFT Masters Program at the Western Institute for Social Research, Berkeley. He is also on the Board of Directors of the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapist (2008-2012) and (2021-current) and has presented for CAMFT conferences and symposiums.
