This workshop provides a general overview of ethics and boundaries in counseling. It covers why ethical standards are needed, ethical principles, confidentiality, and informed consent. We will examine the counseling relationship and how to recognize unhealthy professional boundaries and discuss trends in ethics and areas of ethical difficulty commonly faced by professionals in the field. This workshop will also address a counselor’s need for self-care as an ethical obligation.

The educational goal of this workshop is to increase knowledge about counseling ethics and boundaries and the need for self-care.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Identify and define 5 or more ethical principles in counseling.

Identify and describe at least 2 trends and/or issues related to ethical standards in counseling.

Explain self care as an ethical obligation.

Design a personal self-care plan.
