Description

This training is intended to provide foundational information regarding the history and development of the DM-ID. The trainer will also highlight specific changes and added features of the DM-ID 2. Attendees will learn how the DM-ID 2 is used in concert with the DSM for diagnosis of mental health conditions in people with intellectual disabilities.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to provide training on the use of the DM-ID 2 in the diagnosis of mental health conditions in individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the behavioral phenotypes of at least two Genetic Disorders.

  • Recognize the four main categories of vulnerabilities for people who are dually diagnosed.

  • Define at least three barriers to proper diagnosis and treatment of IDD/MI Dual Diagnosis.

Dr. Dan Baker is with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, where he serves as the Positive Supports Specialist and Olmstead Agency Lead. Dr. Baker also provides clinical supervision for the Successful Life Project. Dr. Baker is involved with the design, development, and monitoring of treatment and intervention programs to align with positive supports, valued community life, and a person-centered culture. Dr. Baker’s clinical focus is on positive supports, models of community and educational support, and mental wellness for persons with disabilities.
