Exploring Emerging Ethical Imperatives With the ancient wisdom of the parent of all ethical thought as his guide, the presenter will propose a cybernetic model for examining the recursive relationship between ethical principle, our collective identity as mental health professionals, and the legal framework that governs professional practice. This model will then be used as a springboard for identifying emerging ethical imperatives that find imminent relevance to post-modern society and to the clients we serve.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Explore the development of a cybernetic model to describe the co-evolution of the constructs of ethics, professional identity, law, and professional technocracy.
-
Utilize this model to identify emerging ethical imperatives that demonstrate “imminent relevance” to the post-modern client.
-
Explore the importance of maintaining “imminent relevance” as a profession and as practitioners; and the potential cost to our clients, ourselves, and our profession of not doing so.
