Working with addictions and compulsive behaviors is an under-trained area. Many therapists would state they do not feel equipped to work with addiction, especially a process disorder, such as sex addiction or an eating disorder. Treating a substance use disorder or process disorder should not be scary for a well-equipped therapist. Frequently, when treating this specific issue, this will be very person-centered and miss the system surrounding and impacting the individual. The goal of this session would be to help MFT’s feel informed and understanding of how to apply our systems training to treating these individuals.
