In this module, we will explore the intersection of trauma-informed care using KAP. Participants will learn the mechanisms of actions underlying the changes seen using KAP. In addition, we will review ethical guidelines and embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion considerations, ensuring a holistic approach to transformative KAP care.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this module is to master the foundations of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, integrating trauma-informed care, understanding therapeutic mechanisms of action, navigating ethical practices, and embracing diversity and inclusion for a holistic and transformative approach to KAP.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain 2 ways to integrate trauma-informed care treatment plans into your KAP practice.

  • Describe the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of ketamine, including its mechanisms of action and neurobiology.

  • Identify at least 2 indications and 2 contraindications for ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

  • Explain how to assess a clients' suitability for ketamine treatment.

  • Describe at least 2 current, cultural perspectives on psychedelics as they relate to ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

  • Describe at least 2 ways to address DEI in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, including understanding cultural perspectives on psychedelics and addressing diversity and equity issues.

  • Explain how to use broaching to incorporate diversity and equity in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy sessions.

  • Explain how to comply with ethical guidelines, current standards, and legal requirements for ketamine assisted psychotherapy, including risk management strategies, informed consent, and documentation.

Ethics

Wendy Byrd, LMFT, LPC

Wendy Byrd, a distinguished Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional
Counselor, co-founded Connected Heart Therapy in Austin, Texas. As an EMDRIA-certified
therapist and approved consultant and trainer, Wendy excels in EMDR therapy and advocates
for its integration into Ketamine Assisted psychotherapy. With national recognition and
appearances on platforms like “Good Morning America,” she promotes awareness of EMDR
therapy’s effectiveness.

 

Wendy’s leadership roles include presidencies in local and national associations, shaping
mental health care. Innovatively, she integrates ketamine-assisted psychotherapy with EMDR,
pushing healing boundaries. Wendy’s commitment extends to teaching Ketamine-assisted
psychotherapy training courses, solidifying her as a transformative force in mental health care.

Robin Landers

Robin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and MAPS trained in MDMA assisted therapy. She
runs a thriving private practice in Austin, Tx. She has over 20 years’ experience working with
individuals and couples, adolescents and adults. Robin began her career in mental health
directly after undergraduate school, where she received her BA in psychology and went on to
receive her Masters in Social Work. Prior to opening her private practice, Robin worked with
adolescents in the juvenile justice system as an individual and group psychotherapist. She is a
certified EMDR therapist in Austin and registered with EMDRIA, an EMDR consultant who
facilitates EMDR basic trainings, and is trained in Systems Centered Therapy and Ketamine
Assisted Psychotherapy.
