Description

Most people in our culture do not feel entirely comfortable talking about sex, even therapists! Sex plays a role in most clients’ lives, so we must gain comfort in talking about sex and sexuality and how it impacts mental health. This workshop will explore what sex therapy is, commonly treated sexual issues, and how to broach the subject in treatment.

Target Audience
  • Counselors
  • Addiction Counselors
  • Psychologists
  • Social Workers
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists
Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to help clinicians gain comfort in discussing sex and sexuality with clients and to help them understand when to refer to a sex therapist.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 3 ways sex impacts mental health

  • Name 3 client groups with increased sexual health concerns.

  • Define "sexual health."

  • Describe 2 scenarios when they should refer to a sex therapist.
