Description

Therapists can make the very best- or the very worst- leaders in complex and dynamic organizations. This presentation explores the distinct advantages and disadvantages of the psychotherapy skillset for leaders and focuses on how to leverage clinical training and talent to maximum effect in an executive role. Participants will review research on effective leadership and leadership styles, explore the rich dynamics of change management, learn about the cultivation of passion and excellence with employees, discuss the cultivation of proactive conflict, and explore the intricacies of effective trauma-informed leadership.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to motivate, empower, and prepare clinicians to be dynamic and effective leaders.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe at least three different leadership styles.

  • List five factors that contribute to a trauma-informed environment in an addiction/behavioral health treatment organization

  • Identify three tools for effective leadership of people and teams.

  • Name three key similarities and three differences between the treatment planning process and the change management process.

Ryan Drzewiecki, PsyD, LP

Ryan Drzewiecki is an experienced leader with twenty years of experience in behavioral health administration. He is a licensed psychologist in Arizona and Colorado. Ryan currently serves as the Chief Clinical Officer at Sierra Tucson. He is the founder of the Mara Group and provides executive coaching, psychological assessment, and consultation for treatment centers and other behavioral health agencies. He is passionate about clinician development and enjoys clinical supervision and training opportunities. Ryan has areas of interest in leadership development, organizational efficiency, company culture and morale, clinical excellence, substance use and process addiction, intersubjective approaches to psychotherapy, and postmodern perspectives on mental health.
