This workshop will present Brainspotting, a trauma-sensitive psychotherapy discovered in 2003, as well as unveil the Neuroexperiential Model. Brainspotting is an integrative model that makes use of relevant eye positions to access unprocessed trauma held in thee subcortical (deep) brain and felt in the body. Central to the model is the Uncertainty Principle which identifies the 1 to 4 quadrillion synaptic connections in the human nervous system as essentially unknowable to the outside observing therapist. In this context, the therapist receives and holds the client’s experiential frame which promotes focussed mindfulness processing and emotional healing. This healing frame is seen in Brainspotting as being both relational and neurological (brain-body). Also presented will be the Neuroexperiential Model of Brainspotting that adopts a global perspective that looks at symptomatic manifestations developmentally and not as disorders. This approach expands beyond the Western viewpoint to seek out and embrace healing wisdom from around the world. Brainspotting as such is elaborated in this neuroexperiential context.
