Trauma directly affects the developing brain, and specific brain functions responsible for attention, concentration, regulating emotions, and engaging in satisfying relationships. Even after receiving years of dedicated therapy, many traumatized individuals continue to feel chronically on edge, scared, agitated, collapsed, and helpless.
This lecture will review the ways in which trauma impacts brain chemistry and will address two promising methods for rewiring the damage done: neurofeedback and psychedelic assisted therapy. Participants will be presented with case studies and latest research to explore how these treatments address the neuroscience behind trauma in order to succeed where talk therapy has not. By focusing less on the story of what happened and instead treating the brain and body first, therapists can help their patients to process past trauma and attachment disruptions and live fuller, more fulfilled lives.
