Description

This presentation will address how to conduct a thorough psychological assessment of a range of potential diagnoses. This will include how to select tests to make a proper differential diagnosis and how to convey feedback to patients and referring clinicians that impacts case conceptualization, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to increase knowledge about conducting a psychological assessment. 

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast differences in the report of a well-done versus poorly done psychological evaluation.

  • Explain how diagnostic questions affect test selection.

  • Identify 2 or more methods to determine whether patients are credibly representing their symptoms or if they may be seeking secondary gain.

Larry Brooks, Ph.D.

Dr. Larry Brooks is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist and licensed psychologist in private practice in South Florida. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. at the University of Miami, a clinical internship at the Yale University School of Medicine, and a fellowship in neuropsychology at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He then became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Miami.

He serves as the Clinical Director of Baptist Health’s Brain Injury and Concussion Clinics. He conducts psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessments with individuals suffering with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, traumatic brain injury, stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurological and psychiatric disorders.
