Description

This workshop will outline the tenets of attachment theory and how a clinician might implement these tenets as a guide for approaching engagement with clients’ family members. Attendees will be educated on the “functions” of attachment, attachment styles within a family system, and how information about these can be utilized to best engage family members in the treatment process. Ultimately, family engagement in the treatment process will yield an increased understanding of an illness and a focus on self-improvement and self-care for family members.

Lauren Walther, LCSW, LCDC, CGP

Lauren earnestly believes in engaging the entire support system in a healing recovery process. Lauren graduated from Smith College School for Social Work in 2011. She completed further training at the Menninger Clinic and Center for Psychoanalytic Studies in Houston, TX.

Through her work with the Menninger Clinic in the Professionals in Crisis (PIC) unit and establishing the addictions track of the Pathfinder Program, Lauren was inspired to help clients and families identify their strengths to build fulfilling and meaningful lives, rather than just focusing on managing illness. She considers vulnerable connections with self and others to be the roots of wellness and satisfaction, so facilitating these connections is at the heart of her work.

As the Director of Family Programming at Driftwood Recovery, Lauren is responsible for supporting and overseeing the family work and facilitating the monthly Courageous Family Workshop, leading groups to educate and ensure that the Driftwood families are equipped with the facts of addiction and their own well-being. Lauren also maintains a private practice in Atlanta and a virtual practice in Texas. When not working with clients and families, she practices her wellness by spending time in nature, moving her body via yoga, running, hiking, and nurturing relationships with family and friends.
