This three hour webinar is designed not only to prepare the “general practitioner” mental health provider in the basics of diagnosing and treating Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) in adults, but doing so during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last 18 months medical and mental health science has learned much about the side effects of COVID-19, and some have found there is a subgroup of those who have had the illness who develop “hyperkinesis”. Similar symptoms were discovered in subgroups of those who had the 1918 Spanish Flu. Attendees will learn how to tell the difference between COVID-19 hyperkinesis and ADHD in adults, in addition to learning how to use the DSM-5 as a guide to do so.
Empirically based treatment methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, aerobic exercise, diet, organizational and coaching help will be discussed as well as the basics of psychopharmacology for adults with ADHD. Specifics will be offered on how to help the adult with ADHD gain skills to improve their relationships and therefore their success at work, in school, in social situations and romantic relationships.
