This course will focus on working with LGBTQ clients, addressing mental health issues and the impact of discrimination, exploring significant social and historical issues in the medical/mental health profession, and discussing best practices. The course will briefly touch on the experience of spouses/partners, and parents of LGBTQ people and explore the lexicon of LGBTQ terminology.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the difference between transgender and non-binary individuals.
- List three issues that face spouses when their spouse comes out as LGBTQ.
- Explain historical factors that have negatively impacted the relationship between mental health providers and LGBTQ people.
- Identify societal challenges LGBTQ people face that negatively impact their health and well-being.
- Understand the lexicon of LGBTQ terminology and provide culturally sensitive therapy to individuals, couples, and families.
This program has been approved for 1.0 CE clock hours by the Louisiana Counseling Association as authorized by the Louisiana Professional Counselor Licensing Board of Examiners.
