Clinical work with school-aged clients requires an intentional lens and deliberate planning. School-aged clients are impacted by a unique set of factors that influence their behavior and decision-making abilities. Students spend more waking time at school than in any other setting, so it is not surprising that encounters within the school setting can impact internal processes and external functioning. This presentation will provide an overview of developmental considerations, potential risk and protective factors to explore, and school-based consultation strategies.
- Counselors
- Social Workers
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists
- Psychologists
Participants will gain skills in working with school-aged clients.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Summarize developmental processes
- Identify four potential risks and protective factors for this population
- Develop three strategies for school-based consultation
