When a child is referred for therapy, they are not the only one in treatment. This workshop will highlight the role that a caregiver plays in the child’s social and emotional wellbeing throughout childhood and will support clinicians in engaging parents in their child’s mental health treatment.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the role of caregivers in child development and the role of attachment in a child’s mental health.

2. Identify 3 benefits of caregiver involvement in mental health treatment.

3. List 5 interventions to engage caregivers in child mental health treatment.

Halley M. Carmack

Halley is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) holding space for children and their caregivers in North Carolina and Florida. She earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Halley is an expert in child development and the parent-child relationship and has over ten years of experience working with children of all ages and their families. Halley has a particular passion for infant and early childhood mental health (ages 0-5) and is trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments to address behavioral challenges, wounded attachments, and trauma in this population.
