Description

While the world endures some of the most difficult moments in history, counselor burnout and compassion fatigue are increasing. This presentation explores how the opioid epidemic and the current COVID-19 pandemic can impair the health and wellbeing of helpers. We will explore empirical evidence on the subject of compassion fatigue and burnout. The presentation will also work to identify the differences between these phenomena and discuss ways to overcome them. The mental health and substance abuse fields are in more demand than ever, and we need clinicians who can utilize coping skills to remain healthy through these trying times. We will review expert exhortation on how to implement healthier time management skills, and how to identify compassion fatigue and burnout. We will discuss a set of easy-to- use methods through mindfulness as well as complete a demonstration of the techniques in real-time.
