Corrective feedback is a major aspect of counselor supervision. Practicing supervision without a solid understanding of cultural diversity can be as harmful as malevolence. In addition, clear awareness of cultural and social norms surrounding feedback and communication norms is necessary to support supervisors’ effectiveness in providing feedback.
The focus of this presentation will be on new research on the interplay between corrective feedback and positive feedback and its effect on self-efficacy. The presentation will address practical modalities of providing adequate supervision feedback and culturally sensitive practices in providing corrective and positive feedback. Implications for supervisors and counselor educators will be discussed.
