This presentation focuses on improving healthcare for trans, nonbinary, gender-expansive, and two-spirit individuals. The presentation will cover terminology and its importance and recommend ways to make healthcare more accessible to trans and non-binary patients. We will also discuss current legislation affecting the trans and gender-expansive communities and assessments and interventions that can be used with trans and gender-expansive patients.

The educational goal of this presentation is to increase participants’ understanding of how to improve healthcare access and patient experience for trans, nonbinary, gender expansive, and two-spirit individuals.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Define transgender, gender expansive, and two-spirit

Identify at least three barriers trans and non-binary individuals face when accessing healthcare and describe the importance of accessible and inclusive healthcare

Describe two or more changes that can be implemented in healthcare settings to increase access and inclusivity for trans and non-binary patients

Identify two current laws or pending legislation that affects the trans and gender-expansive communities

Identify two assessments and interventions that can be used with trans and gender-expansive patients
