In this virtual continuing education workshop, Dr. Morhaf Al Achkar will share his expertise in provider communication, patient experience, and interdisciplinary education to help medical and behavioral health providers work collaboratively with their patients. The workshop will emphasize health equity and social justice, focusing on dialogical frameworks, reflection, and authentic conversation. Participants will learn best practices and creative ways to communicate and collaborate with patients, as well as strategies for coordinating care to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

The educational goal of this presentation is for participating providers to improve communication and collaboration with their patients.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Identify at least two principles of health equity and social justice in the context of provider-patient communication and collaboration.

Identify at least two dialogical frameworks and at least two experiential learning strategies and discuss ways they can foster authentic conversation, reflection, and dialogue between providers and patients.

Identify at least two effective communication best practices and at least two patient collaboration best practices, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches and patient-centered care.

Discuss at least three strategies for coordinating care among medical and mental health providers to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Identify at least two potential barriers to effective communication and collaboration, and discuss ways to overcome these challenges in diverse healthcare settings.
