The need to establish an agreed upon best practices approach, what is known as a Deliberate Practice, is vitally needed in the Addiction Treatment field. The importance of getting specific about what has been injured, what needs to be repaired, and a best practices approach for effectiveness cannot be underscored enough. In this presentation, Alana C. Smith, LCSW, LCDC will detail the 5 domains of injury with addiction and the specific markers for healing.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. List 3-5 specific sources of injury in the 5 areas of impact with addiction.
  2. List 3-5 specific markers for healing in each of the 5 areas of impact with addiction.
  3. Explain specific markers for healing from addiction towards effort of improving treatment engagement, specificity in treatment planning, and family healing with clients.

Alana C. Smith

Alana C. Smith, LCSW, LCDC is a graduate of the University of Houston, Graduate College of Social Work. She is clinically trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Coherence Therapy, and is currently a Post Graduate Fellow of the Center for Family Consultation. Alana has managed treatment center staff and developed treatment and family treatment programs across the country. Her passion is to bring a Deliberate Practice approach to the treatment of addiction and families impacted by addiction by utilizing the science of human relationships and emotions. Alana facilitates virtual seminars on addiction, family healing, and emotion wellness.
