Through the lens of people living with serious mental illness, this presentation will tackle common health concerns seen in the primary care setting; including obesity, smoking, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and chronic pain. Initial screening and diagnostic criteria for these metabolic disorders will be reviewed, along with consideration of the social and medical factors perpetuating chronic disease disparities for people with serious mental illness. Finally, chronic pain syndromes will be presented along with appropriateness criteria for screening for comorbid psychiatric illness.

Explain the screening/evaluation and management guidelines for the major cardiovascular disease risk factors (Obesity, Smoking, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, Diabetes).
