Discuss and practice scenarios of growing differences(racial/ethnic/religious/age) in our work population and how to model being person-centered, open and equitable.
Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to recognize how their background and experiences shape their perspective and how we interact with others. Participants will work towards becoming aware of biases and developing the skills to combat any blocks or challenges.

Presenters
Laura Lanier Eisman recently retired from the Louisiana Mental Health Association as Manager of their Peer Program, TARGET Health. While in long term recovery (substance use & mental health challenges), she entered the Peer field “officially” in 2017. Before obtaining her RPSS, Laura earned her Masters in Counseling and starting her career in social services with national non-profits, from the Alcohol & Drug Council to the American Red Cross, serving as both staff and on boards. She has traveled extensively in service, until returning to Louisiana to be close to family and work at LSU. Laura found her passion with LAMHA, educating, training and facilitating whole health programming and small groups. Relocating to Florida with her husband, Laura continues to be committed to her own recovery journey, working with all ages of Peers in her Recovery Coaching and volunteering to help others find their peace and purpose
Cassandra James-Weathersby is a Champion for Mental Wellness. As a “survivor turned thriver” of her own battles with trauma and mental illness, Cassandra is working to encourage other women of color to stand in their truth; breaking the silence barrier that has kept many trapped. Through her organization, “Black Women Do Heal”, Cassandra is having those hard conversations to facilitate healing, educating and leading communities. Cassandra has over 30 years of lived experience in mental health. She is a RPSS, a certified WRAP and Target Health facilitator, a Recovery Coach Professional and is back in school. Cassandra resides in the New Orleans area. She is a Mom of 3 and loves being a grandmother/ “Gigi.”
