Increasing awareness of isomorphism in ethical, legal, clinical, and business in the agency, supervision, clinician, and client system.

Reducing legal and ethical issues such as triangulation, lack of competence, inappropriate countertransference, breach of confidentiality, dual and multiple relationships, insurance fraud, and supervisory liability.

Address appropriate management of countertransference as a legal and ethical issue.
Description
The presenter will discuss reducing liability, exposure, and vulnerability in the practice and supervision of marriage and family therapy. Such issues as confidentiality, business practices, appropriate use of hierarchical supervisory power, contracting, screening and vetting of potential interns or supervisees, insurance fraud, avoiding triangulation in couple therapy and court-related cases, managing countertransference, and socialization of supervisees into MFT theory and legal and ethical issues will be discussed. Ethical vignettes will be utilized for critical thinking and problem-solving. A Q and A period will be included.

Presenters
Dr. Reo Leslie, LPC, LMFT, LAC, MAC, RPT-S, ACS, directs The Colorado School for Family Therapy which has educated clinicians for mental health licensure in Colorado for 25 years. The School also has an educational program to earn the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential with the CCE. Dr. Leslie has supervised hundreds of clinicians in Colorado since 1996 and taught supervision courses on the masters and doctoral level since 1997. He is a former Vice Chair of the State of Colorado LPC Board and the former Mental Health Representative on the State of Colorado Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ).Â
