Quality of Life and End of Life discussions are some of the most difficult in the veterinary profession.  This workshop will provide the tools to make discussions more comfortable for clients, veterinary staff and VSW.  The role and limitations of a VSW will be explored in an interactive presentation.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is that attendees will be able to have quality of life and end of life discussions and knowledge to support clients in the last days of the lives of their pets.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Summarize how to facilitate discussions with clients regarding the Quality of Life of their pets

  • Provide at least 3 resources for clients regarding QOL, pet loss, and grief.

  • Explain the role of the Veterinary Social Worker at the end of life of pets.

  • Identify 2 or more limitations of the Veterinary Social Worker at the end of life of pets.

Joanne Fuller, BA, MSW, VSW

Joanne is a Veterinary Social Worker in a companion animal and exotic practice in Findlay, Oh.  Joanne is a Licensed Independent Social Worker, specializing in anticipatory grief, end of life decisions and euthanasia. Joanne received her BA from Asbury College,  MSW from the University of Kentucky and completed the VSW program at University of Tennessee. Joanne and her veterinarian husband, Tony purchased Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic in 2011. Combining her social work experience, love of animals and desire to encourage the human animal bond has been a dream come true. Joanne enjoys camping, spending time with their 3 grown children, daughter in love and especially her granddaughter.  She has a Boston Terrier, Yorkie and two cats.
