Increase understanding of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and how to treat it.
Description
This talk will provide an overview of how to conceptualize and treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). We will look at various manifestations of OCD through case examples and use these to showcase information gathering essential to inform conceptualization and treatment. I will discuss how Intolerance of Uncertainty is the root of OCD and describe how to engage and motivate patients to embrace uncertainty and accept Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). I will lead participants in exposure exercises therapists can apply in person and virtually. We will discuss tracking progress, treatment challenges, and relapse prevention.

Presenters
Dr. Edwards is the Founder and Director of New York Anxiety Treatment, an independent therapy practice providing individual cognitive behavioral therapy and intensive outpatient OCD treatment. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College and serves as President of the New York City Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Association. Dr. Edwards has been involved in various treatment outcome trials as a therapist and a researcher and has published her work in peer-reviewed journals and presented it at national conferences. She completed her education at Temple University (Ph.D.) and Duke University (B.A.) and her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College/New York Presbyterian Hospital.
