Presenters
Pete Nielsen is the President & Chief Executive Officer for the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP), CCAPP Credentialing, CCAPP Education Institute and the Behavioral Health Association of Providers (BHAP). CCAPP is the largest statewide consortium of addiction programs and professionals, and the only one representing all modalities of substance use disorder treatment programs. BHAP is the leading and unifying voice of addiction-focused treatment programs nationally. Mr. Nielsen has worked in the substance use disorders field for 20 years. In addition to association management, he brings to the table experience as an interventionist, family recovery specialist, counselor, administrator, and educator, with positions including campus director, academic dean, and instructor.
Mr. Nielsen is the secretary of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium, and the publisher for Counselor magazine. He is a nationally known speaker and writer published in numerous industry-specific magazines. Mr. Nielsen holds a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
Dr. Brett Talbot, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and CCO/Co-founder at Videra Health. Previously, Dr. Talbot was a Chief Clinical Officer, Chief Quality Officer, Executive Clinical Director, and Executive Director at behavioral healthcare organizations. He has worked clinically in several hospitals and residential care settings. Brett’s private practice has focused on behavioral health services, healthcare technology consultation, and he currently sits on several healthcare-related advisory boards.
Brett’s research has focused on program design and effectiveness studies for behavioral healthcare, emphasizing the integration of specific interventions, progress monitoring, and long-term outcomes. Dr. Talbot has published various articles, been a guest editor for a scientific journal, has done editorial reviews for children’s healthcare books, and speaks nationally and internationally on many topics surrounding behavioral healthcare.
Russell Olsen is the Chief Product & Technology Officer at Kipu, joining the company in 2023. In his role, Russell is dedicated to delivering value to customers through innovative design, effective product management, and robust engineering. He brings extensive experience from both the healthcare sector and high-growth companies. Before joining Kipu, Russell served as the Chief Product & Technology Officer at Bamboo Health. There, he led the development of product lines focused on Controlled Substance, Behavioral Health, and Real-time Event Notification. With a career spanning over 20 years in healthcare technology, Russell has worked with notable companies including WebPT, IBM Watson Health, Phytel, and MDdatacor. At IBM Watson Health, Russell spearheaded multiple research teams in applying AI to care management workflows, launched the first AI-enabled Watson Health product, and holds eight patents. His contributions have led to the creation of patient engagement tools, provider workflow solutions, and clinical outcomes systems that have positively impacted millions of lives. Russell earned his degree in electronics and information technology from Brigham Young University. He is passionate about innovation, behavior change, habit design, and integrated care models.
